The cold has arrived!!!

Get your motorhome ready for winter

From older models to the latest generation, not all motorhomes are the same, ranging from models with better insulation to those less suited to the winter season.
Below we will try to give you some advice to prepare for your holidays in the snow.

TYRES
It is very important not to breach the legal requirement to carry snow chains on board or to fit winter tyres, from 15 November.

HEATING
For a comfortable temperature inside the vehicle, let's not forget that gas boilers such as the Truma Combi or Trumatic C are designed to work while the vehicle is moving, provided that the system is fitted with the appropriate safety devices, such as the
Truma Duo Control , a latest-generation cylinder changeover device that combines several functions. In addition to signalling the cylinder level with an indicator light, in the event of an accident it is able to stop gas leaking by shutting off the system.

GAS CYLINDERS
From the end of October, we remind you to fill your propane gas cylinders, which freeze at lower temperatures than butane. To avoid the risk of your cylinder
freezing, we recommend covering its central body with insulated fabric, taking care not to cover the head of the cylinder, since in the event of a gas leak the gas must be able to disperse into the air.
We recommend switching the heating on a couple of days before departure, to check that it works correctly.

LEISURE BATTERY
Another important aspect not to be underestimated during the cold season is the condition of the leisure batteries, which are placed under heavy loads in winter; consider that the heating fan is powered by electricity, so it is essential to check with a suitable tester whether the batteries are still in good condition or need replacing soon. Battery life depends on their technical and quality characteristics, so we recommend using an AGM 95AP battery, remembering that adding a solar panel can help recharge them and keep them in good condition for longer.

ANTIFREEZE
Don't forget to stock up on winter diesel and the appropriate antifreeze additives.
To prevent freezing in the grey water tank, we recommend fitting the ULTRAHEAT heating mat and the antifreeze liquid Flow - Gel for tanks and toilets. To keep the locks working, we recommend using silicone-based lubricant sprays.

To keep the cold out, remember to lower the blinds and fit thermal covers on the windscreen and engine.
Remember to secure your motorhome with the appropriate wheel chocks rather than pulling the handbrake: the mass of freezing water could in fact lock it and you would be stuck.

Jolly Caravan wishes you happy holidays.
